Why Spa Treatments?
I’ve gotten the question, “Why switch to spa treatments?” and I can understand why. I recognize it appears a bit of a contrast to the type of massage I have provided in the last nine years. However, my approach to massage therapy has not changed – to provide client-centered, intentional, and science-based massage to everyone. This ethos now includes spa treatments.
What Is a Day Spa?
Everlong Massage Therapy is not a day spa. It’s not even a regular spa. But understanding the concept of a day spa will help connect the dots of how I arrived here.
A destination day spa is a place where you can spend an entire day on the grounds or in a facility receiving services (massage, facials, body treatments), using the facilities (pools, sauna, relaxing spaces), or taking fitness or self-care classes. They are usually located at a large resort, though there are some independent day spas. Those scenes in movies where people walk around in robes, holding a glass of cucumber water, with a glazed look and smile plastered on their face are totally true to life. I first had this day spa experience at a Las Vegas resort many years ago.
I’m Now an Official Spa Fanatic
I’m a bit of a restless, fluttery, brain-never-turns-off kind of person. My typical vacation is so active and busy that I’m exhausted going back to the real world. So, the idea of sitting around all day at a spa never really grabbed my attention, until I walked into one.
The moment I walked into the Las Vegas spa, the sensory receptors in my nose, my ears, my skin, everywhere, took in all the pleasantness from the spa’s smell, the sounds, the feel and sent it to my brain with a note: “It’s time to calm the heck down”. I was instantly enveloped into this feeling of warmth and nurturing in a way that I have found hard to experience as an adult. All day I moved from different pools with varying temperatures to numerous relaxation rooms targeted toward different sensory experiences, and finally to a treatment room for a scrub, a soak, and a massage.
I read, I napped, I stared into space. Then, I moved to a different room and did it all again. Spa attendants kept a distant but kind and attentive watch over me with fresh towels, drink refills, and concern for any need. It was such a beautiful experience that I knew I wanted to provide the same to my clients one day.
Everlong Massage Therapy (and spa treatments) is Born
I now have the type of treatment room that allows me to provide some of the same treatments that a day spa offers. I may not (yet) have the pools or relaxation spaces, but I do have the same approach – to offer thoughtfully crafted, relaxing rituals that focus on you, with treatments designed to uplift the senses while grounding the mind and body to a new place of peacefulness. An overall beautiful enhancement of client-centered care.
